Project on Bilingualism
We have started putting together a collaborative effort with Professor Annick de Houwer (University of Anvers, Belgium), a bilingualism specialist, who is conducting a study of 31 French/Dutch bilingual children. The current research shows that bilingual children learn languages A et B in the same way as monolingual children. Given the profiles of the linguists participating in the project, we have begun our work on bilingual French/English children. We would like to put together a European project to study and gather data on bilingual children studying French and another language. This will make it possible to compare French-language acquisition in different linguistic contexts and to measure the potential influences of the second language spoken.
Project on High-functioning autistic children
Another research program on anaphora, directed by Anne Salazar-Orvig, Professor at Paris 3, in collaboration with Dr. Elinor Ochs (UCLA), will permit us to compare the emergence of grammaticality in high-functioning autistic children with its appearance in typically-developing children. A master’s student is currently on a 1-year research visit at UCLA, in order to work on the corpus collected in the anthropology and linguistics department. We will be regularly following up on her work and the result of her analysis will be compared with studies conducted on typically-developing children.
